Jesus' Lessons for Effective Ministry - Nathan Rages

Luke 9:1-10 describes Jesus sending His twelve apostles on a ministry tour.  This passage provides many lessons for us to apply to ourselves in  our own areas of ministry:

1.  Learn by hands-on experience (v2-6).

2.  Serve with Christ’s empowerment (v1).  

3.  Benefit from your co-workers (Mark 6:7). 

4.  Keep the Kingdom message paramount (v2).  

5.  Show compassion to suffering people (v1,2,6).  

6.  Depend on God’s provisions (v3). 

7.  Be content with what God gives (v4). 

8.  Move on from rejection (v5). 

9.  Pause for reflection and rest (v10).

Mark 11:1-25 provides helpful principles concerning a Christian's prayer life: 

1.  Prayer is through Christ as the sole location for communion with God.

2.  Prayer requires trust in God, His character and promises.

3.  Prayer is a means by which mountains are moved.

4.  Prayer requires forgiveness toward those who have wronged us. 

5.  Prayer requests must be surrendered to God's will.

Luke 8:40-56 describes Jesus raising the daughter of Jairus back to life.  We explore this glorious account following this outline: 

1. Desperate entreaty (v41-42).

2. Frustrating delay (v42-48).  

3. Hopeless news (v49). 

4. Strong encouragement (v50).  

5. Mocking mourners (v52-53). 

6. Compassionate power (v54-55). 

7. Surprising secrecy (v56).

In Luke 8:40-56, both Jairus and the woman with the hemorrhage were dealing with huge problems that they had no power to solve on their own.  Help for both came as they put their trust in the Lord Jesus.

1. The man’s pitiful plight (v27,29-30).

2. The Christ’s saving power (v28,32-33,35).

Sunday, October 13 Worship Meeting Location

Because most Redeeming Grace Church members will be participating in the Fall Fellowship Camp, October 10-13, the worship service on Sunday the 13th will be held at the chapel of the Turkey Hill Ranch Campground near Freeburg, MO at 10:00am, with lunch served afterwards.  Anyone is welcome to join the meeting at the Campground.  Our regular weekly schedule will resume, Lord willing, after the Camp.

With Jesus in the Storm - Nathan Rages

Luke 8:22-25 recounts the wonderful story of Jesus stilling the storm on the Sea of Galilee.  We work through the details by discussing these seven elements:

1. Guidance: Jesus led them into the crisis (v22).

2. Sleep: Jesus showed His true humanity (v23).  

3. Storm: An unexpected trial came upon them (v23).

4. Prayer: They went to Jesus in the crisis (v24).

5. Faith: The crisis exposed their unbelief (v25).

6. Power: Jesus revealed unprecedented authority (v24).

7. Fear: Desperate panic gave way to reverent awe (v25).
