Word of God - Part 1

The theme of 1Peter 1:23-2:3 is the Word of God.  This message discusses four truths about the Word from this passage: (1) It is instrumental in the new birth, (2) It is living, (3) It is eternal, and (4) It must be preached. 

Fervently Love the Brethren

Christians are called to a life of radical, sincere, fervent, sacrificial love for each other.  This message discusses Peter's teaching concerning (1) the Preparation for a life of love, (2) the People whom we're called to love, and (3) the Particular kind of love we are to practice toward them.

Redeemed with Precious Blood

1Peter 1:18-21 describes the glorious redemption accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ.  This message considers (1) the need for redemption, (2) God's plan for redemption, (3) the price paid to accomplish redemption, (4) the confirmation that redemption was effectual, and (5) the beneficiaries of redemption. 

Christians Commanded to Live in Fear

In surprising language, Peter exhorts Christians to "conduct yourselves in fear" throughout their years on earth.  This message explores the fear of God, particularly considering God as our Father and as our Judge.

Our Tuesday evening Bible Study and Thursday evening Prayer Meeting will now start at 6:30PM instead of 7:00PM, as previously.  This change is effective Tuesday, December 11 and will continue until further notice.

Called to Radical Holiness

Through a series of five commands, Peter exhorts Christians to pursue a life of radical holiness -- in fact to be holy as God is holy.

Prophets, Angels, and the Privilege of Gospel Knowledge

Peter reminds believers of the wonderful privilege of knowing gospel truth.  He does this by pointing us to the Old Testament prophets, who earnestly labored to understand these things and then mentions the angels' desire to "look" into these things.

Joy Unspeakable

In this thrilling verse, Peter describes the normal Christian life as one characterized by a love for Jesus Christ, a faith that sees unseen reality, and a great joy that is indescribable and full of glory.

Various Trials

Trials are a reality of life for all Christians. In 1Peter 1:6-7, the Apostle discusses five aspects of our trials: their variety, duration, necessity, benefits, and final outcome.

Protected by the Power of God

The Apostle Peter provides wonderful reassurance to believers that the power of God Himself will sustain their faith through all the trials and spiritual dangers of life and bring them to the ultimate consummation of their salvation in heaven.  Every child of God will persevere in the faith all the way to glory.

Three Reasons for Christian Rejoicing

Peter gives three reasons for Christians in all situations to rejoice in God: being born again, having a living hope, and anticipating a heavenly inheritance.

Seven Descriptions of the Saints

Peter gives seven descriptive terms that apply to all believers.  They are aliens, scattered, chosen, foreknown, sanctified, obedient, and sprinkled.

Peter, An Apostle of Jesus Christ

An introduction to the book of 1Peter, discussing the Apostle Peter and the recipients of his epistle.  Peter is an intriguing Bible character who was mightily used by God despite his major flaws and failures.  In his first epistle, he gives words of both comfort and exhortation to the scattered, suffering believers of Asia Minor.

The Devil

The devil is described as the Christian's adversary and is likened to a roaring lion, prowling about and seeking someone to devour. This message exhorts believers to be alert to his tactics and to actively resist the devil in the power of Christ.

The World

"The world" is one of the Christian's primary spiritual enemies. By examining how Jesus speaks of the world in his John 17 prayer, we can learn how believers should view the world and interact with it.

This message deals with the "how to" of killing remaining sin in the Christian's life by presenting eight practical directions from Scripture.

Laying Aside Sin - Part 3: Present and Mortify

Christians are commanded to take two actions with regard to remaining sin operating in the flesh: present their bodies to God (Romans 6:13) and mortify the sin (Romans 8:13).

Laying Aside Sin - Part 2: The Flesh

The flesh, the believer's unredeemed physical body, is the place where sin still operates and seeks to "reign" in areas of a believer's life.  The desires of the flesh can be resisted, however, and the believer can walk victoriously in the Spirit.  Sin, though it causes many problems and griefs, is not master over the Christian.  This message focuses on these truths as presented in Galatians chapter 5 and Romans chapter 6.

Laying Aside Sin - Part 1

The Christian's fight with remaining sin must begin with an understanding of who he is in Christ.  His relationship with sin has been fundamentally changed by the regenerating grace of God.  His old sin-loving heart has been replaced by a holy heart.  His old sin-loving self has been crucified with Christ and is dead forever.  The Christian has been delivered from the enslaving power of sin and now walks in newness of life.  The truths, embraced by faith, are the foundation for dealing victoriously with sin problems.

I Know My Own, and My Own Know Me

Message preached August 19, 2012 on John 10:14. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, knows His sheep and His sheep know Him. The Shepherd and sheep are united in a close relationship of mutual love.

Whoever Will Call Upon the Name of the Lord

Message given August 12, 2012 on Romans 10:13 "Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved." This is one of the clearest and simplest gospel promises of God's gracious salvation.
